In Memory of Mary Merritt

Mary Merritt, Woman of the Year 2016-17

Sadly, Sedalia Business Women lost our beloved member Mary Merritt who contracted COVID-19 in November and died at her home January 15, 2021. Mary was born October 12, 1931, and was an active 89 year old.

She never wavered in her steadfast commitment to making a difference in her community through volunteering and other civic involvement. As recently as October 2020, Mary was the guest speaker at Sedalia Business Women and moderated the Sedalia-Pettis County League of Women Voters forum with candidates for the Pettis County sheriff’s race. 

Mary was a member of American Business Women’s Association for sixty-three years. She served in various leadership roles for ABWA and was honored with the group’s prestigious Top Ten Business Women Award.

She has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Missouri serving at the state level as secretary/treasurer for 12 years and as president for four years. She was co-president of the League of Women Voters of Sedalia-Pettis County.

Mary joined Sedalia Business Women November 2012. She served on several committees and kept the club updated on legislative issues. She was named SBW’s Woman of the Year in 2016-17 because of her community leadership.
