Six SBW members attended the Sedalia Rotary lunch meeting Monday, October . The annual tradition of SBW members attending the Rotary meeting has been happening for 98 years! This demonstrates the longevity of both organizations and the common goal of service to the community. SBW members in attendance were Linda Alcorn, Janice Cones, Carolyn Green, Della Schnakenberg, Carol Sawyer, and Robin Balke, who presented a history of the Sedalia Business Women club.
Sedalia Mayor, Traves Williams, read and signed a proclamation designating this as Sedalia Business Women’s Week. In attendance for the proclamation reading/signing were SBW members Michelle Franklin, Janice Cones, Carolyn Green, Linda Alcorn, Della Schnakenberg, Chris Franklin, Robin Balke, and Carol Sawyer.
The annual tradition of the Past President’s Dinner is an opportunity to bring together the current SBW Executive Board members and women who have served as President of the Sedalia Business Women to celebrate Business Women’s Week. It’s always a nice time to reminisce about the past and discuss events/activities of the Business Women’s Week. Those attending the 2026 dinner were: Missy Marksberry (2005-2006), Debbie Fillinger (1989-1990), Carolyn Green (Executive Board), Carol Sawyer (Executive Board), Della Schnakenberg (Executive Board), Robin Balke (2021-2022 & 2022-2023), Linda Fisher, (2011-2012 & 2012-2013), Michelle Franklin (2026-2027), Janice Cones (2006-2007), Michelle Sparks (2013-2014 & 2015-2016), and Debbie Ulmer (2001-2002 & 2020-2021).
Each Wednesday, SBW members enjoy getting together for a Friendship Lunch. They rotate around to various eating establishments throughout the community. For Business Women’s Week, lunch took place at State Fair Community College, where our current President, Michelle Franklin, is employed. While on campus, the SBW members were able to visit the Food Pantry and Clothing Closet, which is the service project for Business Women’s Week. Donations of items and money are being collected from our SBW members this week to donate to the pantry/closet.

The guest speaker at Rotary was CSC Group President Brian Smith. He talked about the restoration of the Trust Building to its former grandeur. “We are both humbled and excited to have the opportunity to rehabilitate this unique and historic building,” he said in a press release.
